I’ve had a passion for drawing and all things creative from childhood, in fact apart from the odd wistful notion of becoming an astronaut there was never really any doubt I would do anything else. I finished my 3D design degree and had a successful career designing for print for many years, gaining an MA in printmaking along the way. But in 2016 a health issue forced a re-think of my life and career and I started looking for a therapeutic creative outlet that would take me away from the computer screen. I tried pottery classes, re-discovered the joy of working with my hands and was hooked.
Using a mix of hand-throwing and hand-building, I like to play around and see where the design will take me rather than meticulously planning beforehand, which can bring some interesting results (and some failures!) but always makes it a refreshingly fluid and evolving process. I am also obsessed with colour and can lose many happy hours layering slips and underglazes, with the result being that no two pieces are ever the same.
A lot of inspiration comes from my ever changing surroundings in the lush wooded areas of the Cotswolds I’m lucky enough to call home, but I also enjoy the whimsy in everyday situations, and above all else have a firmly held belief that life, as much as possible, should be fun!
